The new management of Intaba Ridge Private Game Estate have recently funded, designed and completed the upgrade of the Bizley Rd from gravel to a tar (Chip & Spray) surfaced road. The link from Murray Road all the way to Intaba Ridge has now been surfaced-a distance of about 3km.
This surfacing has significantly reduced dust through the Bizley Nature Reserve and provided a superior driving surface into town for Intaba Ridge residents. The road was fully funded by Sign Power, the developer of Intaba Ridge. Their engineers designed the road with the consent and approval of both the Msunduzi Municipality and the KZN Department of Transport. Both bodies, own about 1.5km of the upgraded section each. The design was signed off by Martin and Associates from Westvile and constructed by Ascon Surfacing from Pietermaritzburg. The road has a 5-7 year design life and a one year contractor's warranty. The road design also incorporated four speed-humps as traffic calming measures to ensure that the speed limit of 40km/h through the nature reserve is adhered to.
It is a common occurence to see giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and impala crossing the road and the 40km/h speed limit is essential to avoid any nasty incidents between animals and vehicles.
Even some of the Nature Reserve residents, like this giraffe, were impressed with their new road!
