A GAME RESERVE
AS YOUR GARDEN
AS YOUR GARDEN
Situated in the Upper Mpushini Conservancy alongside Rocky Valley Game Farm and the Bisley Nature Reserve, Intaba Ridge is a haven of fauna & flora, with prolific bird life. Here residents can experience the wonders of Mother Nature in their own back yards.
Intaba ("Mountain" in IsiZulu) Ridge refers to the north-facing, mountain ridge within the estate over-looking Pietermaritzburg & Table Mountain. Themeda Triandra or Red Grass occurs here and it is the ideal grassland for antelope in general an Oribi in particluar. Oribi are the flag-ship species for grasslands, one of the most threatened eco-zones in the world. This 85ha area has been carefully rehabilitated and is preserved as a game reserve as part of the Endangered Wildlife Trust's (EWT) stewardship program. This program will assist in relocating Oribi to Intaba Ridge.
In addition, the estate with 220ha of open space, will be returned to a natural grassland & bushveld haven. Oribi, Reed-buck, Blesbok, Wildebeest, Impala & Zebra have already been re-introduced with Waterbuck and Bush buck planned for the future.

Each home is required to submit a landscaping plan with their building plans to ensure indigenous gardens to compliment the natural surroundings. Further, green features such as solar panels, water tanks and water harvesting are encouraged to be integrated at design stage.
The intention is to create a natural haven for residents to share, within a safe, secure environment, in harmony with nature.
Even the perimeter fence has been carefully designed to control the movement of animals. Two layers of electric fencing, assist in keeping Oribi and other small antelope within the estate whilst keeping unwanted predators like jackal, poaching dogs and caracal out. This twin layer of protection safe-guards both the human and animal populations within Intaba Ridge and is the most advanced security fence of any eco or game estate in KZN.
